Description:
Abstract:
This is a shapefile of the wells that were sampled for the Oak Openings Shallow Sand Aquifer Study. There are a total of 46 different locations that were sampled, 41 dug/drilled/driven into the shallow sand aquifer, 1 drilled into bedrock, and 4 surface grabs within the aquifer area. Some of the samples from the point or dug wells were duplicated for a particular sampling event thus making a combined 54 wells. There are 22 augured (dug), 26 driven (point), 2 drilled, and 4 surface "wells". Locations for each site were gathered with a global positioning system (GPS) by a team that was sent to collect the water sample. The teams were made up of people from local and state health departments, the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Department of Natural Resources division of water, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) division of Drinking and Ground Waters, Ohio State University Extension, and the University of Toledo. The locations were then verified within the GIS by overlying the well locations on digital ortho quads. Some well locations were adjusted due to errors in the collection with the GPS mainly due to coordinate system mistakes.
